Washington DC Unclaimed Property
The District of Columbia requires corporations report stale checks and remit undistributed funds annually.
Organizations should make all attempts to reissue payment to the the original payee, but if that person cannot be contacted, the following links outline the procedures for reporting and remitting funds to the District as Unclaimed Property.
Here is a link to the DC page for Unclaimed Property. The rules for unclaimed property say that once a paycheck is 1 year old, you can turn of the amount to the DC Unclaimed Property department.
